Subscriber Bonus: Pocket Scarf Project

One of the beautiful things about my job is being able to rediscover older Handwoven projects—especially rigid-heddle projects—that have been all-but-forgotten or that perhaps did not get the love they deserved when they were released. Before the days of Easy Weaving with Little Looms, rigid-heddle projects were few and far between both online and in the magazine.

Now, as editor of Easy Weaving with Little Looms, I have the opportunity to go back into our archives, find these little gems, and rerelease them to a new audience as subscriber exclusives. One such project is Liz Gipson’s Pocket Scarf. While the intro to this scarf project makes me giggle with its dated mention of MP3 players (I suppose it’s better than a mention of a Walkman), the scarf itself is timeless, as is the idea behind it.

The simple striped scarf is quick to warp and weave, making it a perfect weekend weaving project. The ends are finished with crochet trim and then folded into clever pockets—two on each end. If you’re going on a walk and find yourself without pockets (a frequent occurrence in my world), this scarf will hold your keys, phone, and yes, even your iPod if you still use one.
